The Catalyst: Rehtaeh Parsons, 17, attempted suicide in her Dartmouth bedroom on April 4, 2013. She suffered brain damage and passed away three days later, April 7. Rehtaeh had stated that she was a victim of sexual assault and photographic evidence of the incident had been circulated at her school. This photo resulted in Rehtaeh being bullied and harrassed constantly on social media and inevitably led her to take her own life. The two conspirators charged with the dissemination of the photo received a year’s probation and a conditional discharge respectively.
